Wildcats To Take on Seton Hall Wednesday Afternoon

The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to South Orange, N.J., on Wednesday, Jan. 6, to take on the Seton Hall Pirates. Villanova enters play with a 7-2 overall record and 2-2 Big East Conference mark, while Seton Hall is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., at Walsh Gymnasium.
 
The Wildcats and Pirates will meet for the 68th time on Wednesday in South Orange, N.J. Villanova currently leads the all-time series by a 44-23 margin. Villanova has won seven of the last eight and 13 of the last 18 versus Seton Hall.
The Wildcats are 14-3 in their last 17 trips to Walsh Gymnasium.
 
For the third time this season and fourth of her career, sophomore forward Maddy Siegrist reached the 30-point plateau with her 31-point effort at DePaul on Monday. Siegrist was 12-of-24 from the field, 1-of-5 from three and 6-of-7 from the foul line. She also added nine rebounds, a career-high tying five assists and a  career-high tying four blocks. In the history of the Villanova women's basketball program, there have now been 41 performances of 30 points or more.
 
Entering play at Seton Hall, Maddy Siegrist leads the BIG EAST and ranks 10th nationally in scoring with her 24.1 points per game average. She also leads the league in rebounding and ranks 16th in the country at 11.3 rebounds per contest.
 
Senior forward Sarah Mortensen has shown to be a consistent double digit scorer for the Wildcats this season. Mortensen has reached double figures in points in five of the seven games she has played in this year and currently ranks third on the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game. After missing the Drexel and Creighton games due to injury, she has scored 17 points in back-to-back contests versus No. 3 Connecticut and No. 18 DePaul.
 
After nine contests in 2020-21, Villanova has been credited with an assist on 179 of their 242 made field goals for 73.9 percent. Against Connecticut on Dec. 22, the Wildcats had an assist on 19 of their 20 made field goals.  The team currently has four players with 20 or more assists led by senior Raven James with 34 followed by senior Brianna Herlihy with 26, Siegrist with 23 and freshman Bella Runyan who has 22 helpers.
 
Villanova is averaging 70.0 points per game and giving up 64.8 points per contest, while Seton Hall is scoring 82.2 points per game and allowing 69.4 points per contest.
