            VILLANOVA, Pa. –  A pair of goals in the game's final 15 minutes lifted La Salle past Villanova 2-1 in a men's soccer game played Saturday at Higgins Soccer Complex. Branden Johns scored his first collegiate goal to stake the Wildcats to a goal advantage that it held for a good chunk of the day.

            The game was played with temperatures in the 20s and freezing rain.

            The Wildcats grabbed the lead in the 22^nd minute. Junior goalkeeper Carson Williams booted a ball into the Explorers' end of the field. Johns collected the ball and fired a blast past Explorers goalkeeper Brett Werner at 21:38.

            Villanova controlled the tempo for the rest of the half. La Salle owned a 6-5 advantage in first half shots but the Wildcats' back kept dangerous chances to a minimum.

            However, the second half favored La Salle.

            The Explorers' forced Williams to make two superb saves before they broke through as a result of a set piece. (La Salle enjoyed a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks and made the most of those chances). At 77:50 a Charlie Collins feed found Sam Decencio, whose header found the top portion of the net.

            With overtime looming, the Explorers struck again just a few minutes later.

            This time a Collins pass found Omari Cotterell, who guided the ball past Williams' outstretched arm at 87:08.

            Villanova's was unable to create any further scoring opportunities over the final 2:52.

            The Wildcats will return to action next Sunday afternoon at the Higgins Soccer Complex at a special kickoff time. That contest will get underway at 11 a.m. with the Villanova women's soccer team hosting a game on the same surface at 2 p.m.
