Villanova Falls to Old Dominion Saturday Afternoon

Norfolk, Va.- Villanova field hockey closed out their two games at Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon and fell to the Monarchs by a final of 7-0. 

Old Dominion got on the board following a penalty corner pushed in by Jessica Gabriel, she got it to Marlee McClendon who dished it to Marlon De Bruijne who scored.  ODU lead 1-0 at the end of the first. 

De Bruijne scored three more goals to start off the second quarter and Delphine Le Juene scored her first of the game right before the half on a penalty stroke to put the Monarchs up 5-0. 

Jordan McGinley entered the goal for the Wildcats for the second half and started off the third quarter with two quick saves.  Meghan Mitchell got back-to-back shots off for Villanova placing one on goal, but it was saved by ODU's keeper Cam MacGillivray. 

Old Dominion scored again just over 51 minutes in on a penalty corner that Riley Taylor got to Jolene Ulichney who scored.  The Wildcats had a strong offensive chance midway through the fourth.  Following a penalty corner pushed in my Emily Clarke, Sabine De Ruijter got a shot that has saved by an ODU defender.  The rebounded ball gave Caitlin Van Goeverden a shot that was placed on goal but was saved by the ODU keeper.  Villanova was awarded a penalty corner that Clarke took and found Van Goeverden, she once again placed her shot on goal and it was saved. 

Le Juene would scored one more for Old Dominion at the 58:31 mark to make the final 7-0. 

Villanova will have their home opener next weekend against the Temple Owls on Saturday.  Game time is set for 3:00 P.M. at the Proving Grounds.
