STORRS, Conn.—Senior middle distance runner
McKenna Keegan (West Grove, Pa.) ran the top indoor time of her career in the 800 meters with a mark of 2:05.64 at the Husky Field Event Challenge at Hugh S. Greer Field House on Saturday afternoon. Keegan and Villanova throwers
Grayce French (Ridgeland, S.C.) and
Emily Galvin (Pitman, N.J.) were all in competition at the meet, which was the fourth on the Wildcats indoor schedule this season.
Keegan led a field of five runners with her time of 2:05.64 in the race, which puts her in excellent position to qualify for the NCAA Championships when the list of accepted athletes to the national meet is announced in the coming days. The top previous time indoors for Keegan was a mark of 2:05.71 at the David Hemery Valentine Invite in Boston during the 2019 campaign. Keegan was an NCAA qualifier in the 800 meters outdoors as a sophomore during the 2018 season. She had also posted a time of 2:07.67 in the Elite section of the 800 meters at the Camel City Invitational last month in her first race this year.
Saturday's meet at Connecticut was also a successful one for French and Galvin in the throwing events. French, a graduate transfer from Clemson, came in first in the shot put with a mark of 14.56 meters. She had set a Villanova program record earlier this year with a throw of 14.85 meters. Galvin registered personal best marks in both the shot put and the weight throw. She measured a distance of 11.71 meters in the shot put and had a mark of 14.78 meters in the weight throw. The latter mark moved Galvin up two spots into fifth place on the Wildcats all-time performance list in the weight throw.
Villanova will next host a meet on Friday, March 5 at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
