Washington, D.C.- The Villanova Wildcats fell to the Georgetown Hoyas on the road Saturday afternoon by a final of 8-7.
The Hoyas Declan McDermott opened the scoring at the 13:21 mark but
Keegan Khan tied things up just over five minutes later. Georgetown would score the next two but
Eric Overbay would net an unassisted goal at 4:44 to make it 3-2 Hoyas at the end of the first.
In the second quarter both teams only netted one goal, Colin Munro scored the Georgetown goal and Same Parkinson netted Villanova's on a pass from Khan.Â
Will Vitton in the second quarter had seven saves, the junior keeper finished with 15 on the day.
Villanova's offense came out strong in the third quarter scoring three straight.Â
Tucker Goodelle netted the first, Khan the second on a pass from
Jimmy McAfee, and
Austin Fraser set up
Matt Campbell for the final goal of the run to give the Wildcats a 6-4 lead. The Hoyas would score one before the end of the quarter and Villanova led 6-5 going into the final quarter.
Georgetown would score the first two goals of the fourth to regain the lead but
Stelios Kroudis scored his first career goal on a pass from Khan to tie it at 4:56. Jack Leary would net what would be the game winning goal for the Hoyas at 1:16 to make the final 8-7.
Justin Coppola went 9-19 at faceoff along with a team high seven ground balls. Vitton also finished with five ground balls while
Patrick Kennedy had three and a caused turnover.
The Wildcats will return home to take on the Providence Friars on Saturday, April 3
rd. First faceoff is scheduled to 12:00 P.M. Â
