VILLANOVA, Pa.—After a pair of close matches to start the weekend, Villanova (2-1) rolled to a dominant 21-4 victory over Mount St. Mary's (0-4) at the Villanova Swim Complex on Sunday afternoon. Every available player on the Wildcats roster contributed during the game, including 11 different players who scored at least one goal in the romp. Junior utility
Kaysie Stuba (La Grange, Ill.), junior center defender
Amanda Rice (San Jose, Calif.) and freshman attacker
Sydney Bianchi (Menlo Park, Calif.) all tallied three goals in the match.
Rice paced the Villanova offense with three goals and three assists, while sophomore attacker
Joia McKinney (Chicago, Ill.) added two goals and three assists. The offense was opportunistic in the big win, with the freshman trio of Bianchi, attacker
Kimora Farry (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and
Lillie Jones (Honolulu, Hawaii) each scoring power play goals. Sophomore attacker
Allie Hansen (Friendswood, Texas) chipped in with two goals and an assist.
The scoring output represented the fifth time in program history that the Wildcats scored at least 20 goals in a single match, with the 21 goals against Mount St. Mary's tying a match versus Caltech in 2019 for the third-most in the Villanova record book. The total of 31 points from the Mount St. Mary's match (21 goals, 10 assists) is tied for the program's fourth-highest in a single match, while the 17-goal margin of victory is the Wildcats most lopsided win since a 26-3 decision over Penn St. Behrend two years ago.
Villanova raced out of the gates versus the Mount with six unanswered goals in the opening period. The margin was 10-1 at halftime before the Wildcats scored seven times in the third quarter and four times in the fourth period.
Mount St. Mary's scored three of its final goals in the final stanza, but was never able to make a run during the game thanks to another strong outing by freshman goalie
Abigail Shelby (Bellaire, Texas) who had 12 saves and an assist while picking up her second win of the weekend. Shelby recorded 32 saves in her first three collegiate matches while posting a .500 save percentage and a 10.67 goals-against average for the weekend.
Three home matches are on the Villanova schedule this coming weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. tilt with Gannon on Friday night.
