NEW YORK—Senior utility
Paige Rauch (Windsor, N.Y.) was named to the weekly BIG EAST Honor Roll in an announcement made by the conference office on Monday afternoon. This is the ninth time in her Villanova career that Rauch has earned an Honor Roll nod from the conference and the 14
th time overall that she has garnered BIG EAST weekly recognition for her performance on the field.
Rauch starred as both a pitcher and a batter in a doubleheader against Hofstra on Sunday afternoon. She started the second game of the day on the mound and pitched a complete game in a 5-4 victory. Rauch scattered six hits and the four runs (three earned) while walking three and striking out 12 to pick up her first win of the season. She reached double figures in strikeouts for the eighth time in her Wildcats career, and during the game became the 14
th pitcher in school history to top 250 strikeouts in a Villanova uniform.
In addition to her pitching stats, Rauch hit solo home runs in both games of the Hofstra series. Her shot to right field in the bottom of the first inning in the second game tied the score at 1-1. Rauch went 4-for-6 at the plate with the two home runs, two singles and a walk. She reached base safely in five of her seven plate appearances and pushed her season stats up to a slash line of .368/.480/.684 through seven games. The two home runs on Sunday left Rauch just two short of tying the Wildcats all-time home run record.
This is the second straight week to begin the season that Villanova has earned a BIG EAST Honor Roll selection. Senior second baseman
Angela Giampolo earned the recognition last week after the Wildcats opened the season with a five-game stay at the Liberty Softball Classic.
Villanova has a busy week on tap, with a single road game at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday afternoon followed by a doubleheader at George Washington on Thursday and a three-game home series against Hofstra on Saturday and Sunday.
