VILLANOVA, PA. – The Philadelphia Big 5 today announced the major award winners along with first and second team honorees for the 2020-21 season.
Villanova claimed three of the award winners with sophomore forward
Maddy Siegrist earning Player of the Year honors, senior forward
Brianna Herlihy being named the Most Improved Player and head coach
Denise Dillon taking home Coach of the Year distinction.
Siegrist and Herlihy were also named first team All-Big 5, while senior forward
Sarah Mortensen earned second team honors. Siegrist averaged 22.8 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game during the 2020-21 season. In 24 games, she had 13 double-doubles and scored 30 or more points in six games. She earned USBWA Women's All-American Third Team Honorable Mention, was a Katrina McClain Award Finalist, and was a unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST Selection.
Herlihy started in all 24 games for Villanova while averaging 13.8 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. The forward was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team and finished second on the team in points, assists, and rebounds.
Dillon finished her first season as the head coach of the Wildcats by leading her team to the WNIT quarterfinals with a 17-7 record and a 9-5 BIG EAST mark.
Mortensen played in 22 games this season and averaged 11.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per contest. She also shot a team-best .488 from the field (104-of-213).
