Philadelphia, Pa. - A second overtime goal from junior
Lyam MacKinnon was the decider for Villanova tonight, against the Temple Owls (1-1-2). MacKinnon broke a 1-1 tie that was held for 50 minutes.
The Wildcats (4-1) surrendered an early first half goal at the 14:39 mark, however their stifling defense kept them in the contest. The goal was the only shot on goal allowed by Villanova in the 100+ minutes of action.
Shortly after halftime, freshman
Balthi Saunders found the back of the goal to tie the score at one a piece. Saunders' equalizer at the 54:54 mark found the back of the net off a pass from junior midfielder
Gray Ricca. The Brooklyn native now has two goals in his last two games played.
With 10 seconds left in the second half, a shot from senior
Dylan Middlebrook hit off the crossbar and back to the Temple goalkeeper. In the first overtime period, neither team was able to fire off a single shot.
In the 106th minute, Temple was whistled for a foul within the box, and Villanova was awarded a penalty kick, MacKinnon lined up a shot and converted, winning the game for the 'Cats. This is also his second goal in his last two games and his third on the season.

The matchup of interstate opponents saw a total of 10 cards given out, six to Villanova and four to Temple, including a red card for the Owls.
