Villanova Returns to Action Friday at DePaul

Villanova returns to action on Friday, Jan. 14, when the Wildcats travel to Chicago to take on the DePaul Blue Demons. Villanova enters play with an 8-5 overall record and a 2-2 BIG EAST mark, while DePaul is 12-4 overall and 4-1 in league action. Tip-off at Wintrust Arena is set for 6:30 p.m., eastern time and the game can be seen live on FS2.

The Wildcats enter play on Friday at DePaul riding a five-game winning streak. The five wins include at James Madison (76-67), No. 23 Oregon State (56-52), at La Salle (66-56), vs. Seton Hall (76-73) and vs. St. John's (70-68).

Due to last weekend's postponements, Villanova has only played four games in the last 33 days. Following the win over Oregon State on Dec. 12, the Wildcats were off until the game at La Salle on Dec. 21 due to final exams. After the La Salle win, Villanova was off for another 10 days for the Christmas holiday break. The Wildcats last two games were a 76-73 win over Seton Hall on Dec. 31 and a 70-68 victory against St. John's on Jan. 2.

Friday's game against DePaul will be the second meeting between the Wildcats and Blue Demons at Wintrust Arena (DePaul won last year at Wintrust by a score of 94-82). All the other Chicago meetings between the two teams were played on DePaul's campus at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Villanova is 1-4 all-time in games played at Wintrust Arena with the other four contests played in the Big East Tournament.

Junior forward Maddy Siegrist has had a great deal of success versus DePaul throughout her Wildcat career. In four career games against the Blue Demons, Siegrist has tallied 109 points (27.2 ppg.) and 40 rebounds (10.0 rpg.) and has shot .534 from the field (46-of-86). Her four scoring efforts versus DePaul have included 31, 29, 19, and 30 points.

Freshman point guard Lucy Olsen was outstanding in Villanova's last two games of distributing the basketball from her point guard position. In wins over Seton Hall and St. John's, Olsen had 13 assists with just one turnover. Her best effort in the two games came against St. John's with a career-high nine assists and no turnovers. For the year, she has 39 assists and 11 turnovers (3.5 to 1) to go with a 6.7 points per game average.

Following Friday's game, Villanova will travel to Milwaukee to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
