PITTSBURGH – Villanova logged over 20 top-five performances with nine in the top three in a 229-68 loss to Pittsburgh on Thursday afternoon at the Trees Pool.
The highlight of Villanova's (3-3) day came in the 1000 Free with
Jake McIntyre (Essex, Vt.) winning in a commanding time of 9:40.86. He combined with
Charlie Hinckley (New York, N.Y.) for the only 1-2 finish the team saw against Pittsburgh (2-0) on the day with Hinckley touching in 9:52.54. The pair were also in the top-three of the 500 Free, finishing in second and third, respectively, with times of 4:39.84 and 4:45.59.
The 200 Medley Relay team of
Carson Brockette (Dallas, Texas),
Richard Nolan (Wilton, Conn.),
Kevin Geist (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and
Ryan Maher (Phoenixville, Pa.) earned Villanova points with a 1:36.58 time that was good enough for fourth. In the 400 Free Relay later,
Reid Hutcherson (Richmond, Va.),
Ryan Maher (Phoenixville, Pa.), Hinckley and
Patrick Hemingway (Harrisburg, Pa.) combined for a third-place, 3:10.49 time.
Hutcherson and Geist finished fourth and fifth in the 200 Free, touching in 1:45.36 and 1:45.85.
Ethan Brown (West Hartford, Conn.) picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100 Back in 52.19 before
Henry Halloran (Brookhaven, Ga.) and Nolan went 4-5 in the 100 Breast at 1:00.53 and 1:01.80.
Nolan Danus (Morris Plains, N.J.) was the fastest Wildcat in the 200 Fly with a third-place time of 1:53.59. Geist checked in at fifth in 2:00.39. Hemingway touched the wall fourth in the 50 Free (21.45) followed by a fifth-place swim for
Jesse Marsh (Kingston, Jamaica ) in the 100 Free (48.25).
Aubrey Bowles (Richmond, Va.) edged out Pitt's Austin Lane by two-hundredths of a second for runner-up in the 200 Back (1:53.80). Brown was not far behind in fifth (1:54.70).
In the 200 Breast, Halloran and Nolan tagged up a close 4-5 finish with times of 2:11.60 and 2:12.10, respectively. Geist recorded a third-place finish in the 100 Fly (50.69). Halloran was the top Wildcat in the 400 IM, finishing third in 4:10.58.
In the diving pool,
Michael Ackert (Rye, N.Y.) turned in a fourth-place dive in the 1-meter (266.25) and a seventh-place dive in the 3-meter (232.72).
Nicholas Jubilee (Painted Post, N.Y.) turned in sixth-place dives with a 250.95 score in the 1-meter and 281.10 in the 3-meter.
Villanova stays on the road again this weekend, heading to Morgantown, W.V. for a showdown with the West Virginia Mountaineers. That meet will begin at 11 a.m. inside t
he Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.
