UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –
Kelly Montesi logged the lone win individual win while a top-three sweep of the 400 Free Relay marked the high points for Villanova in a 202-91 loss to Penn State on Friday evening at McCoy Natatorium.
Villanova (6-4) saw 15 competitors end the meet with Penn State (6-0) having at least one top-three performance in individual or relay action. Montesi's win in the 200 IM (2:02.85) marked one of her four top-three finishes on the day. She was second in the 200 Back (1:57.83), third in the 50 Free (23.47) and joined
Milly Routledge,
Perri Stahl and
Abbey Berloco in the 200 Medley Relay for a third-place finish (1:43.59).
The top-three sweep in the 400 Free Relay saw the team of Berloco, Stahl,
Nichole Welch and Routledge win with a 3:30.28 time. Second (3:37.77) belonged to
Lainey Quinones,
Molly Benson,
Lexi Elkovitch and
Grace Wielar while third-place (3:41.42) belonged to
Francesca Raimondi,
Cara Stapleton,
Brenna McLaughlin, and
Kaitlin Gravell.
Welch logged a second-place swim in the 500 Free (5:03.09) and the 1000 Free (10:22.84) with Francesca and McLaughlin touching in fourth (10:35.23) and fifth (10:37.08), respectively. Routledge added third-place swims in the 200 Free (1:51.09), finishing just under a second out of first, and the 100 Free (51.82).
The 100 Breast brought a 2-3-4 finish for the Wildcats, led by a second-place finish for Stahl (1:06.06). Gravell checked in at third (1:07.14) with Zimmermann in fourth (1:10.16). Bailey finished fifth in a close 200 Fly (2:03.61) that saw second through fifth separated by 25-hundredths of a second. In the 200 Breast, Gravell took second (2:24.41) and Zimmermann was third (2:31.55). Bailey was fourth in the 100 Fly (57.42).
In diving,
Andrea Holtz was third in the 1-meter (216.68) and fourth in the 3-meter (228.53).
