Villanova, Pa.- The Georgetown Hoyas got an early goal and then held on over the course of the game to post a 1-0 victory over the Villanova Wildcats on a rainy Thursday afternoon.
The Hoyas got on the board in the 21
st minute when Tatum Lenain played a corner kick into the box that found Julia Leas. Leas was able to get a header off that went right into the right side of the goal to make it 1-0.Â
Villanova had their best scoring chances in the 28
th minute.Â
Makayla Stadler took a shot off a corner that was saved by the Georgetown keeper. The ball deflected back into play and went off the hand Leas, in the box, giving Villanova a penalty kick.Â
Brigid Molloy took the kick for Villanova, but Cara Martin made a diving save and kept the score 1-0.
The Wildcats offense connected again in the 55
th and 58
th minute with
Megan Donnelly and
Maddie Fried both having strong shot on goal.Â
Megan McClay, who finished with six save on the day, picked up five in the second half.
Villanova will now hit the road and travel to Wisconsin to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. ET/1:00 P.M. CT.Â
