MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Villanova Men's Swimming & Diving posted a pair of top-10 performances on Thursday to end up in sixth after the first day of the WVU Invitational at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.
The Wildcats closed out the opening day with 219 points through the first 12 events of the meet. They are 34.5 points out of the top five heading into the second day of action.
The best finish on the day belonged to
Jake McIntyre who turned in a fourth-place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 4:30.86. He was two seconds faster in the nightcap compared to his 4:32.84 that also had him sitting fourth through the prelims.
Just under a second separated Villanova's teams in the 200 Free Relay with the A group of
Patrick Hemingway,
Ryan Maher,
Henry Gingrich and
Mikey Thurk finishing eighth in 1:23.99. In 11
th were
Alex Hamill,
Reid Hutcherson,
Gavin Jones and
Sam Randall, posting a 1:24.55 time.
Nicholas Jubilee made it to the 1-meter Diving finals on Thursday after scoring a 265.85 in the prelims. He finished 11
th in the field with a 261.30 finals score.
After McIntyre, the next highest finisher in the 500 Free was
Charlie Hinckley, touching third in the consolation final with a 4:33.76 time that was good enough for 11
th overall. Villanova had three make it to the bonus final of the 200 IM with
Nolan Danus and
Henry Halloran leading the way in 18
th (1:51.75) and 19
th (1:54.14), respectively.
The A team of Hinckley, Halloran, Maher and Hamill finished 13
th in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:25.52 while the B squad of
Aubrey Bowles, Thurk, Gingrich and Hemingway trailed by two seconds with a 3:27.40 showing that landed it 16
th.
Day two starts Friday at 10 a.m. with preliminaries in the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and 3-meter Men's Diving. Finals at 6 p.m. will also include the 200 Medley Relay and 800 Free Relay.
