MADDY SIEGRIST NAMED TO WADE TROPHY WATCH LIST

She Is One Of 16 Players On The List

ATLANTA – Villanova University star forward Maddy Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) is one of 16 players named to the Wade Trophy Watch List. The official announcement was made this morning by the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association).

The Wade Watch List of candidates for the Wade Trophy is composed of players selected by the WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Selection Committee. The committee will review the list midseason to determine if additional players will be added based on their play during the first half of the 2022-23 season.

Villanova's Shelly Pennefather won the Wade Trophy Award for her play during the 1986-87 season.

Siegrist has led the Wildcats to a 6-1 start this year and a Top 25 national ranking in the Associated Press poll for the last three weeks. In the seven games, Siegrist has tallied 192 points (27.4 ppg.) and 71 rebounds (10.1 rpg.). She is shooting .522 from the field (71-of-136) and .407 from three-point range (11-of-27).  The 27.4 points per game average currently leads the country.

In Sunday's win over South Florida, Siegrist became just the third player in program history to score 2,000 career points.  She now has 2,007 career points to her credit in 89 career games.

The Wade Trophy — now in its 46th year — is the oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award in college women's basketball. It is named in honor of the late, legendary Delta State University head coach Lily Margaret Wade, who won three consecutive national championships with the Lady Statesmen. First awarded in 1978 by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), now known as SHAPE America, the Wade Trophy has been presented to the WBCA NCAA Division I National Player of the Year since 2001.
