PHILADELPHIA –
Charlie Hinckley made a move up the Villanova record book in one of his two wins on Wednesday as the Wildcats fell to Penn, 182-110.
Villanova (1-2) recorded 17 top-three showings, five of those being first-place swims, throughout the meet with Penn (1-1). One of those launched Hinckley into the top-five of the 1000 Free Top-Performer's list after coming into the season just shy of the top 10.
Hinckley reset his personal best in the 1000 Free in dominating fashion, shaving nearly 20 seconds off of his previous best with a winning time of 9:35.43, making him the fifth-fastest performer in program history. He earned a second win on the day with a 1:54.05 showing in the 200 Back.
Ryan Maher had the fastest time in the 100 Fly with a 52.19.
Kevin Geist and
Patrick Hemingway were behind him at 52.37 and 57.69 respectively. In the 400 IM,
Aubrey Bowles led the way with a winning time of 4:16.50.
Henry Halloran and
Nolan Danus trailed him in 4:17.38 and 4:22.69.
The 400 Free Relay A team of
Gavin Jones,
Henry Gingrich,
Mikey Thurk and
Patrick Hemingway had a first-place time of 3:09.63.
Jake McIntyre had a second-place showing in the 500 Free, touching the wall in 4:41.94, just two and a half seconds out of first.
The 200 Medley Relay A Team of Hinckley, Halloran, Maher and Gingrich earned points for Villanova, finishing fourth with a 1:35.73 mark.
Aubrey Bowles was the fast Wildcat in the 100 Back, touching third in 53.90. Jones also scored points for the group in that race, landing fourth in 54.01.
Stephen Griner joined him as a point-scorer for the 'Cats, touching fifth in 2:06.93. Jones posted a 1:58.75 in the 200 Back, earning him third place.
Thurk and Jones went 4-5 in the 100 Breast, touching in 59.74 and 1:04.68, respectively. Danus led Villanova in the 200 Fly with a fourth-place time of 1:56.88. In the 50 Free, Hemingway led the way for Wildcat swimmers, posting a 21.68 that was good enough for fourth.
Reid Hutcherson fell into a tight race in the 100 Free, sitting just over four-tenths of a second shy of first with a 47.79 time that was good enough for third.
In the 1-meter,
Chris Jones scored a 250.20 that landed him fifth while
Nicholas Jubilee took sixth at 216.68. The pair flipped spots on the scoreboard in the 3-meter with Jubilee scoring a 250.20 for fifth and Jones landing sixth with a 216.68 mark.
Villanova is back in action next week at the WVU Invitational. That three-day event starts Nov. 17 from the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W. Va.
