NEW YORK – DePaul forward Javan Johnson has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Villanova guard
Mark Armstrong has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Johnson led the Blue Demons to two overtime wins, while Armstrong contributed to the Wildcats' victory against Oklahoma in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle.
This is the first weekly honor for a Wildcat this season.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Javan Johnson, DePaul, F, Gr. – Johnson averaged 27.5 points, 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds to help DePaul win a pair of overtime games. He began his week with a career-high 28 points in 103-98 win over Samford. In a 78-72 win at cross-town foe Loyola Chicago, Johnson scored 27 points and made all three of his shots in the extra period. For the two games, he shot 61.3 percent from the floor.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Mark Armstrong, Villanova, G, Fr. – Armstrong helped Villanova defeat Oklahoma 70-66 in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. The freshman scored 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and was 3-of-3 from the foul line. He also connected on his only 3-point attempt.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Chuck Harris, Butler, G, Jr. – Averaged 23.5 points and made 8-of-11 from 3-point range in a 2-0 week. Scored a career-high 32 points in a win over Tennessee Tech (80-66). Had 15 points against Kansas State (75-63).
Jordan Hawkins, Connecticut, G, So. – Netted a career-high 26 points, including five 3-pointers in a 74-64 win against Oklahoma State.
Kam Jones, Marquette, G, So. – Averaged 23.0 points in a 1-1 week, which included a 20-point effort in a win over No. 6 Baylor (96-70).
Caleb Daniels, Villanova, G, Gr. – Scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting in a 70-66 victory over Oklahoma.
Souley Boum, Xavier, G, Gr. – Averaged 19.0 points in wins over Southeastern Louisiana (95-63) and West Virginia (84-74). Had 23 points against WVU. Passed the 2,000-point mark for his career.
