Wildcats Host American on Tuesday

Villanova returns home on Tuesday, Dec. 6, to take on the American University Eagles. The Wildcats enter play with a 7-2 overall record, while American is 0-7 on the season. Tip-off at the Finneran Pavilion is set for 7 p.m.

The Wildcats are coming off a 79-54 road win at Providence on Sunday, Dec. 4. Maddy Siegrist led the Wildcats in the victory with 29 points and nine rebounds. She was 12-of-18 from the field and 4-of-6 from three. Lucy Olsen had 14 points and six assists, while junior Bella Runyan added 10 points and five assists. Maddie Burke made three triples for nine points. Providence was paced by Janai Crooms with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She was the lone Friar to reach double figures. For the game, Villanova was 33-of-63 from the field (52.4%), 12 -of-28 from three (42.9%) and 1-of-3 from the foul line (33.3%), while Providence shot 39.2 percent from the floor (20-of-51), 30.0 percent from behind the arc (3-of-10) and 61.1 percent from the charity stripe (61.1%). Villanova committed just six turnovers.

After playing eight of its first nine games away from home, Villanova returns to the Finneran Pavilion for three of its next four games. The Wildcats will host American (Dec. 6) and Saint Joseph's (Dec. 10) this week before taking a week off for final exams. The Wildcats play Iowa State at Mohegan Sun on Dec. 18, before returning home to take on La Salle on Dec. 21. Villanova is currently 5-0 on the road, 2-1 in neutral site games and 0-1 at home.  The Wildcats saw their 11-game home winning streak snapped on Friday with a loss to Creighton.

Villanova will play host to Patriot League member American University on Tuesday evening. In the history of the program, Villanova owns a 27-8 record (.771) versus teams that currently make-up the Patriot League. The 27-8 includes 11-1 vs. Lehigh; 5-1 vs. Lafayette; 2-2 vs. Holy Cross, 2-0 versus Bucknell and Navy, 2-1 against American and 3-3 versus Loyola (Md).

Tuesday night's game against American will be just the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools with Villanova holding a 3-1 advantage in the series. In the last match-up, American tallied a 76-54 win over Villanova on Nov. 14, 2019.  The first meeting in the series came in the first round of the WNIT in 2008 when the Wildcats tallied a 53-52 win.

Villanova received a big boost from its bench in Sunday's win at Providence. The Wildcat reserves combined to score 25 points with five different bench players scoring. Runyan led the way off the bench with 10 points to go with five rebounds, two steals and two rebounds.

Siegrist leads the Wildcats in scoring (27.3 ppg.) and rebounding (9.8 rpg.), while Olsen ranks second in scoring at 12.1 points per game. Burke has connected on a team-high 20 three-point field goals.
