Box Score VILLANOVA, PA. – In women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Finneran Pavilion, the Villanova Wildcats celebrated Senior Day with a convincing 64-39 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 22-6 overall and 15-4 in BIG EAST play, while Marquette falls to 16-11 on the year and 10-8 in league action.
The Wildcats raced to an early 10-2 lead which propelled them to a 16-5 advantage after one quarter of play.
Villanova dominated the opening quarter, connecting on 7-of-15 from the field and holding Marquette to just 2-of-7 from the field. The Wildcat defensive effort forced the Golden Eagles into nine first quarter turnovers.
Villanova scored five of the first seven points of the second quarter to open-up its largest lead of first half at 21-7. All five points were scored by freshman guard
Kennedy Henry who had a driving lay-up and a three-ball from the left wing.
Marquette trailed 23-12 midway through the second quarter, when the Golden Eagles scored four straight points to cut the lead to 23-16. Villanova stopped the Marquette momentum and scored six of the final eight points of the half to lead 29-18 at intermission. The six points came on lay-ups by
Jasmine Bascoe and
Brynn McCurry and a jump shot by Henry.
The Wildcats led 43-33 early in the fourth quarter, when they used a 10-0 run to take control of the game with a 53-33 lead with 5:58 on the clock.
Denae Carter and Henry led the way in the spurt, with Carter scoring six points and Henry four.
Following the decisive run, the Wildcats would lead by as much as 25 and cruise to the win.
In the victory, Bascoe led the way with 18 points and seven assists, while Carter had 14 points, five rebounds and three steals. Henry was the third Wildcat in double figures with 13 points.
Marquette was paced by Lee Volker who had 11 points and Halle Vice who tallied nine points and 10 rebounds.
For the game, Villanova was 27-of-62 from the field (43.5%), 3-of-16 from three-point range (18.8%) and 7-of-8 from the foul line (87.5%), while Marquette shot 31.7 percent from the floor (13-of-41), 15.4 percent from behind the arc (2-of-13) and 78.6 percent from the stripe (11-of-14). Villanova committed just nine turnovers.
Villanova will close out the 2025-26 regular season on Thursday with a road game at Seton Hall. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
