Villanova Falls to No. 22 Temple 12-7

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats (0-2) fell to City 6 rival Temple (2-0) by a final score of 12-7. The Owls came into the matchup ranked No. 22 in the IWLCA DI poll. 

With the win, Temple improves to 12-4 all-time against Villanova.

The 'Cats notched the first score of the game, as midfielder Caroline Curnal found the back of the net, 30 seconds into the contest, off of a pass from attacker Cara Moreau. The Owls would go on to score four unanswered and head into the second period with a 4-1 lead. Quinn Nicolai scored three of the four for Temple and finished the match with a game high five scores.

Momentum swung in favor of Villanova to start the second period, as seniors Libby McKenna and Alexa Tsahalis each scored to cut the deficit to one. The Owls would quickly respond with two goals of their own to regain a three goal lead. Shortly before halftime, McKenna ripped one past the Owls goalie to make the score 6-4 at half.

A high scoring third period saw a total of seven goals scored. The Owls held the advantage in scoring in the period at 4-3. After Temple opened the third period with two goals, McKenna notched her third of the contest to make the score 8-5 in favor of the home team. 

Tshahalis and Curnal would also score in the third period for Villanova. 

Temple would add two scores in the final frame to make the final score 12-7.

Villanova will return to action against Cornell on Saturday, February 19 at noon.

- Molly Dunphey set a career high with three caused turnovers in a single contest.
