EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Villanova men's swimming and diving finished its week in third-place with two major award-winners on Saturday at the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Wildcats scored 606 points in the meet for their second top-three finish in as many seasons, landing behind winning Georgetown and second-palce Xavier. They recorded 10 medals throughout the meet, two of those gold, with four medals on Saturday alone.
Michael Ackert was lauded as the Men's Most Outstanding Diver for a second-straight year, winning the 1-meter dive on Thursday and earning bronze in the 3-meter on Saturday. For a fourth-straight season,
Todd Michael was named the Men's Diving Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Georgetown's Mike Tober. The final day of competition saw his diver's land top-five finishes. Ackert's third-place showing of 533.85 in the 3 meter was followed by a fifth-place performance by
Nicholas Jubilee, scoring a 517.55.
Both
Nolan Danus and
Jake McIntyre set program records on Saturday. Danus reset his own program record by nearly two seconds with a 1:47.46 in the 200 Fly for his first-ever BIG EAST gold medal. He now has four of Villanova's top 10 times. McIntyre demolished the program record for the 1650 Free by 16 seconds, touching in 15:09.67 to earn silver. He also recorded the second-fastest 1000 Free time in Villanova history at 9:12.60 in the swim.
Jake McIntyre earned silver in the 1650 Free in dominating fashion, demolishing the program record by 16 seconds with a time of 15:09.67. He also recorded the second-fastest 1000 Free in Villanova history at 9:12.60.
Charlie Hinckley finished seven in the race with he seventh-fastest time in Villanova history at 15:44.23, making him the third-best performer in team history.
Ethan Brown reset his personal best in the 200 Back with a bronze-swim of 1:46.63.
Aubrey Bowles took seventh at 1:50.73.
Carson Brockette made it to the B-final with a 1:49.31, a new personal best.
The 100 Free prelim was chalked full of personal bests with all four participants notching new ones, led by B-final efforts from
Patrick Hemingway and
Reid Hutcherson. With a 45.55 time, Hemingway became the third fastest performer in Villanova history, also logging the ninth-fastest time. Hutcherson's 45.81 made him the seventh-fastest performer.
Jesse Marsh and
Samuel Fanatico reset theirs too at 46.81 and 47.39, respectively. In the B-final, Hemingway finished tied for 13
th (45.67) while Hutcherson took 15
th (45.81).
Andrew Mitchill and
Henry Halloran became the fifth and seventh-fastest performers in the 200 Breast with prelim times of 2:03. 01 and 2:03.15, both personal bests. Mitchill finished seventh in the final, picking up the seventh-fastest time in school history at 2:02.30, resetting his personal best again.
Danus swam a 1:49.34 in the 200 Fly prelims, marking the third-fastest time in program history. He now holds three of the top five times on the list.
Kevin Geist was right behind him with a personal-best mark of 1:49.68. He went on to top that time in the final, finishing fourth with a 1:48.93. A personal-best 1:52.08 for
Ryan Maher and a 1:52.19 for
Luke Griner landed them in the consolation final. They improved those time sin the final at 1:50.89 and 1:51.34, respectively.
