The Villanova golf team is slated to compete in the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate beginning Monday. The two day, 54 hole tournament will be played at Golden Horseshoe Golf Course, a par 71, 6817 yard course.
"The Golden Horseshoe is one of the best courses in Virginia," said assistant coach
Patrick Aylward. "The combination of the course and the other institutions competing will provide a great test for us."
This will be the first time Villanova has competed in this tournament, which will be hosted by William & Mary. There will be 13 institutions competing in the event: Farleigh Dickinson, George Mason, Georgetown, Longwood, Old Dominion, Penn, St. Bonaventure, St. Francis (PA), St. Joe's, Towson, Villanova, Washington & Lee and William & Mary.
Sophomore
Peter Weaver will look to continue his strong play in Williamsburg, Virginia. In the Wildcats first tournament of the spring, Weaver carded the team's best score, shooting even (216) and tying for seventh place.
Villanova will feature a lineup of Weaver,
Matthew Copeland,
Noah Peck,
Luke Alexander, and
Vimal Alokam, with
Matt Davis competing as an individual.
Aylward continued, "The guys have really worked hard in our new indoor facility and have a lot of confidence going into this tournament."
Play is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. each day, with Villanova being paired with W&M, Georgetown and George Mason on day one.
