Luke Keating has been named BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week for the second straight week while senior
Will Vitton was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after the Wildcats defeated Marquette Saturday 10-8.
Keating locked up Attack Player of the Week honors after leading Villanova to a 10-8 win over Marquette. Scoring or assisting on 80-percent of the Wildcats' tallies in the outing, Keating posted a season-high five goals and dished out three assists for a game-high eight points. After falling behind by a goal early in the opening quarter, Keating collected all three of his assists in a quick six-minute span to give Villanova a 4-1 advantage. After the Golden Eagles went on a four-goal run to take a 5-4 lead, Keating scored four of the next five goals, including the game-winner, as the Wildcats took a commanding 9-5 lead they would not look back on. After Maquette pulled back within two goals with 10 minutes remaining in the contest, Keating notched his fifth goal of the game to lead Villanova the win and improve to 3-1 in BIG EAST play.
Anchoring the Villanova defense in Saturday's 10-8 victory over Marquette, Vitton posted a season-high 0.680 save percentage. In the outing, Vitton matched his season-high with 17 saves, with seven coming in the opening frame, as Nova jumped out to an early 4-3 lead. After falling behind 4-5 with 11:44 to play in the second quarter, Vitton and the Villanova defense held Marquette scoreless over the next 24:02, as Villanova built a commanding 9-5 lead it would not look back on.
Villanova will close out the regular season on Friday night when they host No. 2 Georgetown. First faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. and can be seen on BEDN on FloSports.
