UNITAS Celebrates and Commemorates Juneteenth with a Service Project at Vaux Big Picture High School

VILLANOVA, Pa. – UNITAS, in partnership with the Villanova Black Alumni Association and the Office of Intercultural Affairs, is celebrating and commemorating Juneteenth through a service project at Vaux Big Picture High School on Monday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Juneteenth service project participants will paint murals at the high school and assist with gardening and clean-up efforts in and around the school building. A Villanova student-athlete and coaches panel to speak with Vaux students is also planned, as well as a community drive for laundry supplies. Villanova Athletics will be collecting detergent and other supplies, which can be dropped off at Jake Nevin Field House any time before June 20.

Vaux Big Picture High School is a four-year, public high school that opened in 2017 and primarily serves the young people in the Sharswood neighborhood of North Philadelphia. Its mission is to equip every Vaux graduate to find and walk their pathway to a successful career.

More information and updates about the Juneteenth service project can be found on the UNITAS Twitter and Instagram channels in the days leading up to the event.
