VILLANOVA, Pa.—Next year's annual game against an FBS opponent was announced on Friday afternoon and Villanova will travel to UCF for a non-conference contest on September 16, 2023. The game was announced by both schools and is the first game to be revealed on the Wildcats schedule for the 2023 season.
The announced game will be the second meeting on the gridiron all-time between the schools. In the one previous contest Villanova traveled to Orlando to open the 2006 season and was dealt a 35-16 defeat by the Knights. The Wildcats went on to post a 6-5 record that year, including four straight wins to end the season.
Villanova has traditionally played an FBS opponent once each year since becoming an FCS program in 1985. The Wildcats are 4-20 in 24 previous contests versus FBS foes, with the last win coming at Temple to open the 2018 season. Last year saw Villanova visit Penn State for a Week 4 contest, while this season the Wildcats take on Army West Point in their third game of the year.
