VILLANOVA, Pa.—Graduate offensive lineman
Michael Corbi (Arnold, Md.) was a first team selection on the Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America Team which was announced on Monday morning. The honor is just the latest preseason accolade for Corbi, who has already been named to the Athlon Sports Preseason All-America squad and to the CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Team.
Last season Corbi started all 12 games he played at left guard and was recognized by Stats Perform and Hero Sports who each named him a second team All-America pick. Corbi added first team All-CAA accolades a year ago as part of an offensive line which gave up just 14 sacks the entire season. Villanova ranked second in CAA Football and 11
th nationally in fewest sacks allowed, while the offensive line helped the team average 30.1 points per game and 380.0 yards of total offense per contest. Corbi and his fellow linemen allowed the Wildcats to top 200 rushing yards in a game five times, score 22 rushing touchdowns and average 170.0 yards per game on the ground.
Villanova won a share of the CAA Football title last year and earned the league's automatic bid to the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2012. With a number of key players back from the 2021 squad, the Wildcats were recently picked as the preseason CAA favorites entering this season. Villanova kicks off the 2022 campaign on Friday, September 2 against Lehigh at 6 p.m.
