Villanova, Pa. – Many college students use the summer as a time to rest, get away from school or work a summer job.
For multiple Villanova golfers, though, the focus of the summer months was continuing to hone their abilities on the course.
Peter Weaver
After a dominant 2021-22 season for the Wildcats, Weaver showed his prowess in the summer, qualifying for sectionals at the U.S. Open. The reigning All-BIG EAST Second Team member was one of just two amateurs to get through at Lake Forest Country Club in St. Louis, Mo. Weaver also earned semi-finalist honors at the STLDGA Championship in July.
The Villanova team captain set VU's single season stroke average record (72.26) in his sophomore season and will headline the Wildcats' 2022-23 lineup.
Joshua Lavely
Lavely, a new addition to the roster, competed in the 44th Michigan Junior State Amateur in July. The 6-foot-3 freshman earned runner-up honors after a 21-hole clash, as it took three holes of a sudden-death playoff to determine a champion.
Lavely will look to crack the Wildcats' lineup in his first season, coming to Villanova as the No. 1 ranked golfer in Michigan's Class of 2022.
Jason Lohwater
Another newcomer to the Wildcats, Lohwater finished solo runner up in the 2022 New York State Men's Amateur Championship. The graduate transfer from Bucknell shot a -11 in the championship, which took place Aug. 9-11 at Onondaga Golf & Country Club. Lohwater's score tied the previous New York state record, which was also broken by this year's champion.
In four years at Bucknell, Lohwater posted a career scoring average of 74.87 and ranks fourth in school history with three top 10 finishes. The Rochester, New York, product is one of two graduate transfers on VU's roster, along with Kyle Kinnane (Loyola Marymount).
Ryan Pamer
Incoming freshman Pamer earned second place at the AJGA Dana Incorporated Junior Open in July. Pamer also shot a -2 to finish in the top five at the Ohio Junior Championship in June.
A two-time conference player of the year in high school, Pamer joins the Wildcats after averaging 72.4 strokes per round and winning six tournaments as a senior in Hudson, Ohio.
