Villanova, Pa.- The Rider Broncs got an early second half goal and then held on over the course of the game often dominated by Villanova to post a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats on Thursday afternoon.
Villanova's offense was able to get shots off throughout the game, having 22 at the end of regulation to Rider's seven. The Bronc's netted what would be the game winner in the 52
nd minute when Camryn Dees dished it to Mackenzie Rodrigues, who used her left foot to get a shot in the upper left corner of the goal to fall.
The Wildcat's had multiple scoring chances after that were saved by Rider's keeper.Â
Makayla Stadler had Villanova's first strong opportunity on a header off a corner that was just saved minutes after Rider scored.Â
Later in the half
Emma Weaver sent a shot from 20 yards out that a jumping punch save was needed to clear. In the 65
th minute
Lauren Ashman gave Villanova there strongest scoring chance with a shot just outside the box that was right on target. Again, Rider's keeper was able to jump and just punch the ball out of play to make the final 1-0.
Villanova will return to action next Thursday when they host the Penn Quakers. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 P.M. at Higgins Soccer Complex.Â
