DAYTON, Ohio – The Villanova women's volleyball team ended its weekend with a loss in straight sets (25-16, 25-9, 25-16) to No. 25 Illinois.
The Fighting Illini dominated set one, taking a 6-0 lead to start the match. The 'Cats strung together a 6-1 run late in the frame to tighten the score, but Illinois cruised to a 25-16 victory.
UIUC hopped out to another hot start in the second stanza, securing an early 9-4 lead. A 7-0 scoring run later in the frame brought Illinois up 18-6, and the Illini stormed their way to a 25-9 win and a two-set lead.
Villanova snatched momentum early in the third period, going up 5-2 and 7-3 to start the stanza. But the Illini continued to a 7-0 scoring run, picking up a 17-10 lead. Illinois kept the pressure coming and won 25-16 to secure a sweep of the Wildcats.
Eight players recorded kills for Villanova (3-6), led by Riley Homer's six terminations. Belle Morgan notched double-digit assists with 12, while Elizabeth Feczko totaled nine digs and Madeline Barber tallied a team-high three blocks.
Middle blocker Kiera Booth was named to the Dayton Invitational All-Tournament Team after a weekend where she hit .340, totaling 21 kills, 12 blocks and four service aces.
UP NEXT: The 'Cats wrap up their non-conference slate with a visit to Connecticut, taking part in the Yale Invitational next weekend. VU will face the host Bulldogs on Friday night, then Sacred Heart and Fordham on Saturday.
