Volleyball Falls to Creighton in Second Conference Contest

Wildcats return home to host St. John's, Seton Hall

OMAHA, Neb. – Villanova University volleyball suffered its second loss in conference play on Sunday, defeated by the No. 22 Creighton Bluejays in three sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-18).

"We played hard, I feel good about that part," head coach Josh Steinbach said. "I feel like we're making a turn for the better right now."

Seven players totaled kills for Villanova (4-10, 0-2 BIG EAST), headlined by eight from Rose Crist. Tara Garvey and Riley Homer each tallied six terminations for the Wildcats and Madeline Barber led VU with three blocks.

Setter Andrea Campos contributed a team-high 17 assists and Elizabeth Feczko totaled a match-high 12 digs for the 'Cats.

Creighton picked up an early lead in the first set, going up 12-4 to start the match. Villanova tightened the set and made the Bluejays work, but CU won the opening frame 25-17.

It was the Wildcats who took an early advantage in the second, as VU led 7-5 in the stanza. But the 'Jays took momentum back and advanced to a 15-11 lead. The rest of the set was all Creighton, cruising to a 25-15 win.

The squads were trading points for the start of the third, up until the Bluejays went on a run and moved into a 15-8 lead. But the Wildcats were not out of it, rattling off four straight points to cut the deficit to two. Creighton was able to finish off the sweep, though, getting to a 25-18 advantage.

UP NEXT: VU will return home for the first time since the opening weekend of September, hosting St. John's on Friday, Sept. 30 and Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 1.
