VILLANOVA, Pa. – After over a month away from competition, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams get back to action this weekend. The women head to Richmond on Friday afternoon while the men host Providence on Saturday.
The women (1-3) closed out the first half of the season with a 151-149 victory over La Salle back on Nov. 22. Both
Audrey Pastorek and
Katie White logged sweeping victories that day with Pastorek leading the team with three individual wins. Pastorek's came in the butterfly, winning the 100 in 55.84 and the 200 in 2:00.56. White took the 200 Fly by nearly five seconds in 2:02.64 before notching the sweep in the 100 Fly at 56.53. Pastorek tacked on a third win in the 200 IM, touching in 2:01.57. In relay action, Pastorek teamed up with
Winnie Jalet,
Lainey Quinones and
Perri Stahl teamed up for a 200 Medley Relay win in 1:43.21.
This is the eighth consecutive meeting with the Spiders save for the 2021 season that saw an abbreviated schedule. Villanova has won each of the last seven meetings in that span with the last one being a 161-120 result that saw the 'Cats win 12 events. Friday's meet will start with diving at 2 p.m. with swimming to follow at the Robins Center Natatorium.
The men (1-3) fell to La Salle in that November dual, 167-131. Four Wildcats logged victories in that loss while totaling 23 top-three performances on the day.
Reid Hutcherson edged La Salle's Zack Miller in the 200 Free, posting a time of 1:42.34, just five-tenths of a second ahead. Much of the same came for
Patrick Hemingway who won the 50 Free by two-hundredths of a second (21.39).
Henry Gingrich was victorious in the 100 Free, posting a 46.80 while
Henry Halloran won the 200 Breast in 2:07.21.
Saturday's home meet with the Friars will be swimming only, starting at noon from the Villanova Swim Complex. Villanova has won each of the 11 previous meetings with Providence since 2012. The most recent meeting came last year with Villanova claiming four 1-2 finishes in the 110-95 victory at Providence.
