STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Senior sprinter
Jane Livingston (Lancaster, Pa.) finished first in the 60 meter hurdles and recorded a personal best time in the 60 meter dash as the women's track & field team opened its indoor season at the Penn 10-Team Select on Saturday evening. Villanova had eight athletes in competition at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex and began the 2023 campaign on a strong note.
Livingston paced the field in the 60 meter hurdles in both the preliminary heats and the final. She posted a time of 8.55 in the prelims to lead a field of 13 runners, then maintained her position to finish first in the final in a nearly identical time of 8.56. In between those races, Livingston posted a personal best mark of 7.64 to finish third out of 30 competitors in the preliminaries of the 60 meter dash. She maintained her hold on sixth place on the Wildcats all-time performance list in the event with that time. Livingston ran the final of the 60 meters just moments after winning the hurdles and came in eighth in 7.88.
The trio of senior
Jada Thomas (Kingston, Jamaica), freshman
Myonica Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and senior
Alexis Martin (Gaithersburg, Md.) also ran in the 60 meters. Thomas came in 14
th in the prelims with a time of 7.96, Jackson registered a PR of 8.00 in her first collegiate race and Martin finished with a time of 8.07.
Thomas joined Livingston in the final of the 60 meter hurdles as well, posting marks of 8.98 in the preliminary heats and 9.83 in the final. Jackson had a great day in her first collegiate meet as she added to her PR in the 60 meters by later posting a time of 25.99 in the 200 meters. Martin also competed in that race and recorded a time of 26.32.
In the distance events, sophomore
Kate Flynn (Gray, Tenn.) ran the 800 meters in 2:30.54 and freshman
Kinsey Pogue (Danville, Calif.) registered a time of 5:14.93 in the mile. It was Pogue's first collegiate track race after she made her Villanova debut as a member of the team's cross country lineup during the fall.
Junior
Caroline Carlson (Miami, Fla.) and senior
Liv Morgan (Bronx, N.Y.) were in action for the Wildcats in the long jump and the shot put, respectively. Carlson finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.21 meters and Morgan was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 11.60 meters. Both athletes have excelled in the multi-events both indoors and outdoors during their collegiate careers.
Villanova returns to Ocean Breeze next Saturday when it hosts the Villanova Invitational beginning at 4 p.m.
