VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova volleyball ended BIG EAST week six with a straight-set loss (15-25, 8-25, 15-25) at the hands of the Creighton Bluejays, falling in a sweep on Friday night at Jake Nevin Field House.
Skylar Gerhardt led the way for Villanova (15-9, 6-6 BIG EAST) with eight kills and a match-high three service aces, while Abby Harrell and Riley Homer each put up five terminations.
Taryn Whittingham totaled a match-high 12 digs, Andrea Campos led the team with 21 assists and Kiera Booth contributed three blocks on the evening.
Creighton secured an early lead in the match, jumping out to advantages of 7-1 and 10-2 in the first period. The Bluejay edge got as far as 12, but the 'Cats used a 3-0 and 4-0 run to battle back into it and force a CU timeout before the 'Jays got the two points they needed for a set victory.
The Bluejays once again amassed an advantage to open the second stanza, building up a 16-5 lead after a 7-0 run. Creighton bulldozed its way to the finish line in that game, moving to a 25-8 win to go up a pair.
Frame three was closer at the beginning, as the Wildcats had it within two multiple different times. But CU utilized a 5-0 stretch to generate some distance between the squads, and proceeded to finish it off and sweep the match.
