Caroline Curnal and Elena Torres Garner BIG EAST Weekly Honors

VILLANOVA, Pa. Déjà vu anyone? For the second week in a row, Elena Torres earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and fifth year Caroline Curnal earned BIG EAST Honor Roll. In their nail-biting win against the Saint Joseph's Hawks, Torres collected five points with two goals and three assists; remarkable for a rookie's first collegiate home game. Curnal scored five goals including a phenomenal game-winner with just eight seconds left on the clock. Below are the rest of the BIG EAST weekly awards. 
 
BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Shea Garcia, Marquette, Sr., A
The senior attacker earned 10 points last week scoring nine goals along with an assist as the Golden Eagles went 2-0. Garcia had 11 shots on goal as Marquette defeated Youngstown State, 18-11, and Cincinnati, 19-13, on the road. She also added two groundballs, one caused turnover and one draw control against the Penguins.
 
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Lydia Foust, Marquette, Sr., M
Foust totaled six points off five goals and one assist for the Golden Eagles earning her second consecutive BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week award. Additionally, Foust added one groundball in Marquette's win over Youngstown State and her assist came in the victory against Cincinnati.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Landyn White, Connecticut, Gr., GK
In UConn's first two games of the season, White made 32 saves in a 1-1 week for the Huskies. The graduate student added 11 total groundballs, including five in the 18-17 win over Fairfield. In a 11-7 loss to No. 12 James Madison, White had 20 saves, six groundballs and two caused turnovers.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Elena Torres, Villanova, Fr., M
The first-year midfielder scored two goals and added three assists in Villanova's 14-13 win over Saint Joseph's. Torres had the most assists of any Wildcat last week and assisted on Villanova's first goal of the game. This marks Torres' second consecutive BIG EAST Freshman of the Week award.
 
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Grace Coon, Connecticut, Gr., A – eight points off seven goals and one assist along with 11 shots on goal and one caused turnover in a 1-1 opening weekend for the Huskies
Emelia Bohi, Denver, So., GK ­– 11 saves on 24 shots faced in a 1-0 week for the No. 11 Pioneers; Added two ground balls in a 9-8 win over Colorado
Caroline Curnal, Villanova, Gr., A – scored five goals in the Wildcats' win over Saint Joseph's including the game-winning goal with eight seconds left; added eight draw controls, two groundballs and one caused turnover in the win
