EAST MEADOW, N.Y. –
Nicholas Jubilee dove his way to a bronze medal on Wednesday, highlighting the Men's Swimming and Diving team's first day of the BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Villanova is in the middle of the pack heading into Thursday with 83 points. It trails reigning champion Georgetown and Seton Hall who are first and second, respectively.
Jubilee has gone back-to-back years now as a top-three finisher in the 1-meter after taking silver in 2022. This time around, he posted a 539.10 final score that landed him third behind a pair of Seton Hall Pirates. The sophomore earned a spot in the championship final after scoring a personal-best 280.15 in the prelims that was good enough for second.
Chris Jones was ninth with a 484.40, giving him the top spot in the consolation final.
In the first men's relay of the day,
Reid Hutcherson,
Jake McIntyre,
Ryan Maher and
Charlie Hinckley posted the fifth-fastest 800 Free Relay in Villanova history, touching in 6:37.99. Hutcherson's opening leg time of 1:38.34 marked a new personal best, giving him four of the top-five fastest 200 Free times in program history.
Hinckley and Maher were back in the pool for the final event of the night, swimming first and third respectively in the 200 Medley Relay. Joined by
Mikey Thurk and
Patrick Hemingway, the squad finished fifth in 1:30.97.
Day two of the Championships gets started at 10 a.m. with prelims for the 500 Free, 200 IM and 50 Free. The finals will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the 200 Free Relay closing the night.
