Danus' Silver Leads Men’s Swimming and Diving in Day Two of BIG EAST Championships

Villanova is now fourth in the field

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Nolan Danus made a substantial jump up the program record book with a silver-medal showing in the 200 IM on the second day of the BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.

The junior had the lone medal of the day for Villanova as the team slipped into fourth with 171 points. Georgetown leads with 274 while Xavier is just half a point behind at 273.5.

Danus posted the sixth fastest time in program history during the prelims with a 1:49.03 that led the field heading into the evening's final. He took nearly a second off of that time in the final, touching second in 1:48.20. That time marked not only a new personal best, but it also made him the second-fastest performer in the event in program history. With his two times Thursday, Danus now holds three of the 10 fastest times in Villanova history.

Charlie Hinckley and Jake McIntyre also made record book moves in the 500 Free. In the morning prelims, the pair notched the fifth and ninth-fastest times in Villanova history at 4:26.25 and 4:28.94, respectively, to earn spots in the Championship Final. They shook up the top-times list again in the night session. Hinckley touched fifth in 4:27.05, marking the sixth fastest time in program history. McIntyre came up sixth in 4:28.46, resetting the ninth-best mark. Seven of the 10 fastest times in program history belong to either Hinckley or McIntyre with Hinckley owning four of those times.

Richard Nolan was in the Championship Final with Danus in the 200 IM. He finished eighth in 1:50.26.

Patrick Hemingway earned a spot in the consolation final of the 50 Free, posting a 21.00 that earned him 12th. He closed the night as the anchor for the 200 Free Relay squad, joining Mikey Thurk, Henry Gingrich and Sam Randall. The team posted a fifth-place time of 1:23.05 that marks the 10th best time in program history.

Day three of the championships brings the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 3-Meter Diving and the 400 Medley Relay. The day begins at 10 a.m. with prelims and diving at 1 p.m. before the finals session at 5:45 p.m.
