WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Villanova bats came to play on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats took down Georgetown 8-6 in the second contest at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy, led by Tess Cites' second four-hit game of the season in addition to two RBIs.
Two freshman each added a pair of hits in the game for VU, Madison Ostrowski and Lilly St. Jean. Kat Gallant earned the win for Villanova (9-13, 1-1 BIG EAST) after going all seven innings while striking out seven and allowing eight hits and two walks.
Cites led off the game with a double down the left field line, but the 'Cats recorded three straight outs following her base knock and could not bring a run around.
VU then worked a two-out rally in the second inning to get the scoring underway, as Ava Franz and Victoria Sebastian both reached base and Dani Dabroski walked to load the bases. Cites then notched her second double of the contest, driving in two runs and putting runners on second and third.
A wild pitch scored Dabroski and moved Cites up to third, then St. Jean singled to center field for another run to put the Wildcats up 4-0.
Georgetown scratched back two in the home half of that frame, utilizing a leadoff walk, double and a two-RBI single to bring its deficit to two.
Ostrowski hit a one-out double down the left field line in the third, then Franz did the same thing to strike back and provide Villanova a 5-2 advantage.
A Georgetown pinch hitter in the fifth inning then brought VU's edge to two with a solo home run, making the score 5-3.
The 'Cats received a leadoff double from Chloe Smith to start the sixth, then Sydney Hayes tripled down the left field line to bring Smith around. Ostrowski sent one the opposite way to allow Hayes to score and put her squad up by four.
The Hoyas took three runs back in their half of the sixth stanza, with two doubles, a single and an error bringing the score to 7-6.
Dabroski, Cites and St. Jean hit back-to-back-to-back singles to kick off the final frame and the 'Cats were able to bring a run across and extend the lead to two.
Georgetown got two runners into scoring position in their last hacks, but Gallant forced a flyout to deliver a Villanova W.
