Villanova University senior forward
Maddy Siegrist has been named a first team All-American by both the Associated Press and USBWA (United States Basketball Writers Association). She becomes the first player in program history to earn first team All-American distinction.
"Maddy is an All-American in every sense of the word and she is truly deserving of this honor," said Villanova Head Coach
Denise Dillon. "On the court, the numbers she has put up this year are staggering. To lead the country in scoring and score nearly 1,000 points in one season is amazing. We are so proud of Maddy becoming the first Associated Press All-American in program history."
Siegrist has led Villanova to a 28-6 overall record by leading the country in scoring at 28.9 points per game to go with a 9.3 rebounds per contest average. She is currently shooting 51.8 percent from the field (367-of-709), 37.3 percent from three-point range (50-of-134) and 85.1 percent from the foul line (200-of-235). Siegrist has scored 20 or more points in all 34 games this year, including 14 games of 30 points or more. Her best effort of the season came against Seton Hall on Feb. 11 when she tallied 50 points on 20-of-26 shooting.
She became the all-time leading scorer in the history of Villanova basketball this season for both men and women (currently has 2,799 points), in addition to becoming the all-time leading scorer in BIG EAST Conference history for men and women with 1,693 points for regular season conference games only.
Villanova is a four-seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will host the first and second round games. The Wildcats are scheduled to play 13-seed Cleveland State on Saturday, March 19 at 5 p.m.
