VILLANOVA, Pa. – With a pair of scrimmages under its belt in the second half of the season, the first true race of the spring takes Villanova to nearby Cherry Hill, N.J. for the Doc Hosea Invitational on the Cooper River.
Villanova will be one of five teams in the field that has slimmed down from the originally scheduled 18-team lineup due to the impending threat of inclement weather and high winds. Joining Villanova are No. 8 Penn, No. 10 Syracuse, Northeastern and Bucknell.
"We are excited to go up against some of the strongest programs in the country, with two top-10 ranked schools," Villanova head coach
Carissa Adams said. "We have been discussing that our team is in the process of up-leveling and part of the plan is to give our athletes the opportunity to race against programs with top end speed. The athletes are entering the weekend with a great attitude and are prepared to push hard against these crews. I am excited to see how they handle the pressure and look forward to seeing their performance this weekend.
"Unfortunately, the weather has been predicted to not be the best, causing several teams to scratch preemptively. We are hopeful that this reduced field and change in schedule will allow our team to get our first 2K in the books this spring."
At present standing, Villanova is slated to compete in lane 1 in each of its three events, launching boats for the 2V8, V8 and 3V8.
