Rowing Finishes Fourth at CAA Championship

2V8 highlighted the day with a bronze medal

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – Villanova scored a program-best 29 points on Saturday en route to a fourth-place finish at the CAA Championship on the Cooper River.
 
This marks the highest finish for the team since taking fourth back in 2023 with 22 points. The 29 points scored by the 'Cats on Saturday marks the most for the program since joining the league in 2016.
 
Seniors Gianna Zajac and Grace Quirk along with junior Maggie Coyne were named to the All-CAA team. The trio of honorees also marks a new program-high. Coyne is now the team's third two-time All-CAA rower adding this to her plaudit from her freshman year in 2023. She joins Morgan Mroz (2016, 2018) and Emily Lenane (2016, 2017) on the list of repeat honorees.
 
The 2V8 earned a podium spot with a bronze finish in the Grand Finals for 12 points. Kate Shipley, Natalia Peng, Sarah Robillard, Quirk, Anna Primmer, Ella Carriero, Mary Tracy, Isabelle Rotival and Natalia Brozyna used a strong final sprint to pull past UC San Diego with a four-tenths-of-a-second edge on the Tritons. They garnered a 6:56.073 time, finishing just behind Northeastern and Drexel.
 
The bronze showing was the first for the Wildcats in the 2V8 since 2021.
 
Another close finish came in the V8 with the Wildcats missing the podium by under a tenth-of a second. The 'Cats squad of Zajac, Coyne, Kira Capaldi, Jadyn Ramos, Jalyn Colon, Silvana Torres, Cecilia Jenkins, Sylvia Marks and Bailey Bryan fell in line with Drexel near the finish line but ended up fourth in 6:59.222 for 15 points, narrowly behind the Dragons' boat that posted a 6:59.144.
 
Villanova crossed first in the V4 Petite Final with Cate Donnelly, Sarah McKee, Olivia Weglarz, Maddie Sumnar and Ava DeJong crossing in 8:24.266, earning two points for the team total. The 3V8 team of Abby Shang, Sabrina Pauli, Meg Wolf, Mary Eagle, Emmi Stanton, Megan Theis, Lilly-Kate Foley, Taylor Pansy and Abigail Saraceno finished sixth in its Grand Final with a time of 7:44.433.
 
Northeastern won its 11th consecutive team title with 47 points. Drexel and Delaware rounded out the top three with 40 and 31 points, respectively.
