Offensive Outburst Powers Villanova To 12-0 Victory Over St. John's

Tess Cites records third four-hit game of the season with three runs and three RBI

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Villanova Wildcats run-ruled St. John's in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon, routing the Red Storm 12-0 in five innings after an offensive outburst of 12 hits and three home runs.

Tess Cites paced Villanova (24-18, 9-5 BIG EAST) with her third four-hit performance of the year, adding three runs and three RBI with a three-run homer.

Ava Franz, Victoria Sebastian and Chloe Smith all registered a pair of hits in the matchup and Ryan Henry blasted her eighth home run of the season and second in as many days.

Kelsey White picked up the win for the Wildcats, striking out four and allowing just two hits in four innings of work. Alyssa Seidler tossed the final frame in the circle, striking out a pair of batters to deliver the victory for Villanova.

Cites began the game with a single up the middle, then Ally Jones joined her on the paths with a base knock. Sebastian continued her strong start to the weekend by blasting a double into left center, scoring Cites and Jones to give the 'Cats a 2-0 edge.

The top of the lineup came through again in the third, as Cites sent the first pitch of the inning to the same spot as her first single. Chloe Smith followed that up with a rope down the line for a double, putting two on with nobody out before a St. John's pitching change.

Cites scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0, then Jones drew a walk to put two runners on again. Sebastian came up and delivered once again, blooping a single into shallow center field to score Smith and advance a runner to third.

Henry came up with no outs and proceeded to blast a 2-2 pitch way out of the park, bringing home three runs to secure a 7-0 advantage.

After the Red Storm recorded the first out of the stanza, Franz made it an eight-run game with her second dinger of the season, belting a pitch out of the yard to get VU a six-run inning.

The Johnnies registered their first hits in the fourth frame and put two runners into scoring position, but White stranded both runners with a groundout to Smith.

Villanova loaded the bases to start the fifth inning on two hit-by-pitches and a walk, then it was pinch hitter Emily Orr earning an RBI as a fielder's choice brought another run home.

Cites then made her good day great by blasting the first strike of her at bat over the fence in center field for a three-run homer, giving VU a 12-0 edge that Seidler protected in the final stanza to pick up the W for the 'Cats.

The win clinches the season series for the Wildcats against the Red Storm, putting VU up 2-0 this year in matchups with the Johnnies.

UP NEXT: The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. Eastern at Red Storm Field.
