CORAL GABLES, Fla.—Fifth year thrower
Liv Morgan (Bronx, N.Y.) surged into second place on the all-time Villanova performance list in the javelin with the longest throw of her career as a group of three Wildcats wrapped up competition in the Hurricane Alumni Invitational at Cobb Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Senior sprinter
Jane Livingston (Lancaster, Pa.) and freshman
Myonica Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) each recorded personal best times in the 200 meters during Saturday's events.
Morgan got the day started with a huge performance in the javelin. She threw for 47.09 meters to notch the seventh-longest mark by a Villanova athlete with the current javelin implement which has been in use since 1999. Morgan easily surpassed her previous personal best in the javelin which had been 45.46 meters from the Florida Relays just over a year ago. Her performance on Saturday puts her into the BIG EAST lead this season and ranks her in the top 25 on the East Region descending order list.
The longest throw of Morgan's career came on her first attempt of the day as she got off to a fast start in a field of 15 athletes. She recorded the best mark in the first round of throws and would later go on to measure three additional successful attempts that ranged from 42.09 meters to 45.25 meters. Morgan finished third overall in the field. She moved up from fourth to second on the Wildcats performance list, trailing only her former teammate and school record holder
Taryn Ashby (50.69m).
Later in the day Livingston and Jackson each doubled up in their respective events. Livingston raced in the 200 meters for the first time since last April 16 and posted a personal best mark of 25.01 to finish 14
th in a field of 35 competitors. She narrowly came in ahead of Jackson, who was 16
th overall with a PR of 25.11. She eclipsed the time of 25.21 she had recorded at the indoor BIG EAST Championships earlier this year.
Livingston lowered her season best time in the 100 meter hurdles to 13.59 with a strong race in her signature outdoor event. Her time ties the BIG EAST lead for the current season and is six-hundredths of a second than the mark of 13.65 which Livingston recorded at the Texas Relays just over a week ago. Jackson competed in the 400 meters on Saturday afternoon and came in 12
th with a time of 57.84.
Villanova returns to action when it competes in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton next weekend.
