VILLANOVA, PA. – Villanova University head women's basketball coach
Denise Dillon today announced that Denae Carter will transfer to Villanova from Mississippi State University. Carter, who will be a junior in the fall, will be a member of the 2023-24 Wildcat active roster.
As a sophomore last season for the Bulldogs, Carter played in 28 games and averaged 4.2 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per contest and shot .483 from the field (43-of-89). During her freshman campaign in 2021-22, she averaged 6.1 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per contest and connected on 47 of 93 from the field for 50.5 percent. For her efforts as a rookie, Carter was named to the 2022 SEC All-Freshman Team.
A native of Philadelphia, Carter was a standout at St. Basil Academy where she was a first team All-State honoree as a senior. She left St. Basil as the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, as well as the all-time leader in blocked shots and steals. During her senior season, she led St. Basil to a 24-3 overall record and a berth in the Pennsylvania state playoffs.
