VILLANOVA, Pa.—Senior faceoff specialist
Justin Coppola (Garden City, N.Y.) was named to the USILA Scholar All-America Team in an announcement made by the organization on Wednesday afternoon. The award is presented by Blatant Lacrosse to the top academic performers in Division I, II and III collegiate lacrosse. This is the seventh straight year in which Villanova has had at least one honoree on the Scholar All-America squad.
Coppola has stood out during his collegiate career in both his academic pursuits and his contributions on the field. He has been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team three straight years, with the honorees for the 2022-23 academic year to be announced next month. Coppola has also earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all eight semesters of his career for having a GPA above a 3.2 during each grading period.
As a senior this season Coppola was named a second team All-BIG EAST honoree for the second straight year. He is the Wildcats single season and career record holder for faceoff wins with a career total of 614 wins in 1,130 chances (.543 faceoff winning percentage). Coppola was 184-of-332 (.554) at the X this season and had a team-high 124 ground balls for a Villanova team which was nationally-ranked for the majority of the season and extended its streak of being the only BIG EAST team to qualify for the conference tournament each year that it has been held.
