VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova volleyball ended its weekend with a loss, falling to the Butler Bulldogs in straight sets (24-26, 18-25, 19-25) in the program's annual Jam The Jake contest.
In front of the biggest home crowd of the year, Abby Harrell paced Villanova (10-6, 1-3 BIG EAST) with 11 kills while Kiera Booth (eight kills) and Madeline Barber (seven kills) both hit over .385 in the match.
Andrea Campos contributed a double-double at 26 assists and 11 digs while Taryn Whittingham tied her for a team high 11 ups.
It was back-and-forth action for the entirety of the first frame, as neither side could establish a lead greater than three points until the end of the period. Butler led for most of the stanza and went up as much as 24-20, then despite the 'Cats staving off four straight set points, the Bulldogs won it 26-24.
The same story prevailed in the opening part of the second stanza with the match being tied at 14-14. From that point on though, it was all BU as the Bulldogs ended the frame on a 12-4 run to secure a two-set advantage.
After Butler jumped out to a 12-9 lead in the third period, the Wildcats battled back to take an edge of their own but an eight-point Bulldog run, aided by a number of successful BU and unsuccessful VU challenges, delivered a sweep for the Dogs.
UP NEXT: The Wildcats will remain at home, preparing for a pair of contests next weekend against Connecticut and Providence at Jake Nevin Field House. The Huskies come to the Main Line for a matchup on Friday at 6 PM while PC makes a 4 o'clock Saturday appearance at Nevin for Youth Day.
