Villanova University junior linebacker
Shane Hartzell (Perkasie, Pa) was rewarded for his play in Saturday's win over New Hampshire by being named both the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player Of The Week and the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
In the 14-6 victory, Hartzell tallied a career-high 20 tackles to go with two tackles for loss. He was also involved in four straight stops inside the seven-yard line as part of a Villanova goal line stand in the second quarter. Hartzell's 20 tackles are the second most by an FCS player this season.
After eight games, Hartzell leads the Wildcats in tackles with 75 to go with 4.5 tackles for and two sacks.
Hartzell and the No. 13 Villanova Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a road game at Hampton. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
