VILLANOVA, Pa. – Head coach
Mike Corrado announced the captains for the 2025 Villanova Men's Lacrosse season on Monday. The four players to receive the honor were graduate student
Matt Licata, senior
Luke Raymond, and juniors
David Evanchick and
Jack Shoemaker.
All four of these players will have a large impact on the field this upcoming season and were voted to team captain status by their teammates based on leadership and maintaining the program's core values.
Licata and Raymond both serve as attackmen, while Evanchick and Shoemaker play on the other side of the ball on defense for the Wildcats.
Licata enters his fourth year of action on the Main Line, where he comes off an illustrious 2024 campaign in which he netted 36 goals and dished out 20 assists, leading the team in points with 56. He earned All-BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team as well as six weekly awards. The New Hampshire native has found the back of the net in every game since the final regular season game against Georgetown in 2023. Licata also has earned academic awards in every semester from the BIG EAST and Athletic Director's Honor Roll since coming to Villanova in Fall 2020 and was named a USILA Scholar All-American this past season.
Raymond had a breakout junior season in 2024, starting 14 games and racking up 17 points. He had the game-winning goal in the BIG EAST Semi-Final game against Denver with 36 seconds remaining, helping the Wildcats advance to the final round.
Evanchick was able to cement his role as a vital piece of the Wildcats defense as a freshman in 2023 and has only added to that since. This past year, he picked up a ground ball in every game and played a large role in holding Georgetown scoreless, causing a turnover and picking up two ground balls while the 'Cats scored seven unanswered goals to close out the first half in the BIG EAST Tournament Finals.
Shoemaker has appeared in every game so far in his Villanova career, and along with Evanchick, creates havoc for any opponent trying to create offense against the Wildcats. He had 41 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers during his sophomore season, the caused turnovers ranking second on the team, behind only the national leader in the statistic,
Stephen Zupicich. The California native was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for causing three turnovers and picking up four ground balls against Colgate in his first home game of the season in 2024.
