RICHMOND, Va.—Villanova will begin the 2025 football season on Saturday, August 30 with a road game against Morgan State before playing its home opener one week later on September 6 against Colgate. The full schedule for the 2025 season, which will once again feature 12 games played over 13 weeks, was announced by CAA Football on Wednesday morning. The schedule features an even split of six home games at Villanova Stadium and six road games for the Wildcats during the regular season.
The non-conference slate begins and ends with two opponents who have not frequently appeared on the Villanova schedule. That includes the season opener against Morgan State on August 30 which will only be the second meeting between the two teams. They first met in 2014 when the Wildcats defeated the Bears, 48-28, on Homecoming Weekend at Villanova Stadium. The regular season finale is also a non-conference contest as Villanova will play Sacred Heart on the gridiron for the first time.
A trip to Penn State is on tap for the Wildcats on September 13 as the teams meet for the second time in five years following a 70-year gap in the all-time series. Villanova met the Nittany Lions during the 2021 campaign after the teams had not faced each other since 1951. The other non-conference game for the Wildcats is the home opener against Colgate on September 6 which will be the third straight meeting between the teams. Villanova tallied a 28-3 victory in Hamilton, N.Y. this year in its first road trip of the season.
Conference play begins on Saturday, September 20 at Monmouth and the Wildcats will play eight consecutive CAA Football foes over nine weeks. The road games in conference play are at Monmouth, New Hampshire (October 4), Elon (October 11) and Towson (November 8). Villanova posted wins over both New Hampshire and Towson this season on its way to an FCS playoff berth, while it will be making its first trip to Elon since 2021. The Wildcats have shut out the Phoenix in each of the last two meetings, including the 2021 road game and a 2023 home game.
The home CAA schedule begins against William & Mary on September 27 and will also include dates versus Hampton (October 18), UAlbany (October 25) and Stony Brook (November 15). The last game against the Seawolves will wrap up the Wildcats league schedule with a week remaining in the regular season. When Villanova takes on Sacred Heart on November 22, it will mark the first time since 1993 that the Wildcats end the regular season against a non-conference foe.
Villanova is coming off a 10-win season which saw it advance to the second round of the FCS playoffs. After tallying a first round victory over Eastern Kentucky on November 30, the Wildcats were one of six FCS teams with at least three, 10-win seasons over the last four years. Villanova has the most wins and highest winning percentage among CAA Football teams over the last five seasons (38-16, .704) and earned a share of the league title in 2021 and 2023.
