STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Villanova embarked on a busy day of competition on Friday with events at three different meets in three cities spanning from Boston to Seattle. The day included three of the Wildcats distance runners racing in the Fastrack National Invite at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in New York on Friday afternoon. Sophomore
Amelia Arrieta (Kansas City, Mo.) made her season debut in the 5000 meters while sophomore
Kinsey Pogue (Danville, Calif.) ran the 3000 meters and senior
Kate Flynn (Gray, Tenn.) competed in the 800 meters.
Pogue recorded a personal best time of 9:57.74 in the 3000 meters and finished sixth out of 63 runners in the event. It was the first time in her career that Pogue has broken 10 minutes in the 3K; her previous PR of 10:02.02 came earlier this season on the same track in the Villanova Invitational on January 20.
In the other races for the Wildcats on Friday afternoon, Arrieta won her section of the 5000 meters with a time of 18:17.32 and Flynn posted a time of 2:26.33 in her heat of the 800 meters.
Villanova also had athletes competing at the Eagle Elite Invitational in Boston and the Husky Classic in Seattle on Friday. The current weekend represents one of the last chances to tally season-best marks and NCAA Championships qualifying times prior to the conference championship meets which will be held around the country later in the month.
Competition remains for the Wildcats on Saturday in Boston with events taking place between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
