VILLANOVA, Pa.-- Villanova is set to do battle with No. 9 Yale this Saturday in New Haven, Conn. It marks the sixth meeting in the last seven seasons between the sides with Yale taking last year's contest 20-14.
The Wildcats (0-1) are looking to build off the momentum they had in the second half against No. 15 Penn State which saw them pour in eight goals.
Colin Michener finished the contest with four goals and is gaining more confidence each day.
Justin Coppola picked up where he left off last season winning 21 faceoffs against the Nittany Lions.
Yale (0-0) enters the 2024 season ranked in the top 10 for the eighth consecutive season and is coming off a 9-6 campaign in 2023 where they fell to Georgetown in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs notably led the Ivy League with 15 goals per game and 23 points per game. Chris Lyons returns for his junior season after finishing second in the Ivy League with 62 goals, including nine in last season's win over Villanova. Reigning New England Player of the Year Matt Brandau is also back after tallying 70 points last season. The Wildcat defense will have to slow down this duo in order to win.
Ball security will also be key for the 'Cats, who turned it over 24 times against Penn State which led to them falling behind in the first half. Last season, Yale forced a below average 7.67 turnovers per game. With a game under their belt this young Wildcat team know what they must fix and will look for a statement win on the road. Opening faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m. this Saturday in New Haven.
